Dedication of the Lending Library

This lending library is dedicated to bringing awareness of the National League of American Pen Women, Inc. This organization was founded in 1897 by Marian Adele Longfellow O-Donoghue. This was during a time when women journalists were not permitted to join male-only professional organizations. Their mission was and still is to bring together a sisterhood of talented women who are dedicated to their craft and allow then to share their passion for arts with others.

The League became a strong professional organization for women writers, artists and composers, to be recognized for their talents and is still very active today.

Since 1951, their main headquarters has been in the Pen Arts Building in Washington, D.C.   They host retreats annually for women to share and aspire part of the legacy of other females and what they have learned through their work.

Ms. Johnson of 22 Seminole Street Studio spent 8 years traveling extensively as an officer of the State chapter of the NLAPW.  We hope you will borrow a book or leave a book for others to enjoy.
